Quizzes built from the record book
Wise Lemur makes quiz shows about things that can be checked. Careers, draft classes, the language itself. If an answer cannot be proved from a source, the question does not get asked.
Where the questions come from
Every sports question begins with an official statistics API — the leagues' own. A career path is assembled from the clubs a player actually appeared for, season by season, with the club named as it was named at the time. That last part matters more than it sounds: a man who played in Montreal in 1995 played for the Expos, and a quiz that says Nationals is telling you about a franchise rather than about him.
The English shows work the same way against a dictionary. A spelling question is only asked when the correct spelling is in the record and the three wrong ones are not words.
Why there is only ever one answer
A career path is a fingerprint, and two players can share one. Before a question is written, the exact sequence of clubs and years is checked against every other career in the database. If somebody else has walked the same path, the question is thrown away rather than asked with a caveat.
What the machine writes, and what it does not
The facts are never generated. Numbers, names, clubs and dates come from the data and only from the data. A language model is used for wording — turning a row into a sentence somebody would say out loud — and every sentence it writes is checked against the numbers it was given before anyone sees it. Then a person reads it. Nothing reaches this site or a video without that.
The videos and the site are the same thing
A question published here is the question the episode asks, from the same record, in the same words. There is no separate website content to drift out of step — when a video goes live, its page appears, with the whole round written out.
Where the shows live
Each subject is its own channel, because somebody who came for hockey did not come for baseball. The episodes go out there in full; the site carries every one of them with the whole round written underneath.
Corrections
Records get revised and mistakes survive review. If something on this site is wrong, tell us and it will be fixed at the source, which means it is fixed everywhere at once.
